Katie has been training dogs at the shelter for over 5 years and is now offering private, in home, training sessions to the greater Durango area. She takes a relationship-based approach to training dogs and seeks to build a stronger bond between you and your pup throughout the training process.

Want to have your dog in your wedding but don’t have someone to manage them? We are here to walk them down the aisle or guide them through any other wedding festivities.

Katie, owner of Durango Dog, also grooms dogs at Durango Pet Spa and is currently accepting new clients.

We have many years of experience watching dogs while their owners are away. And, while our main focus is dogs, we are happy to care take for just about any living thing from horses to plants.

Do you work all day and need someone to get your pup out of the house? We can tailor this service to you and your dog’s needs from simply swinging by for a potty break to extended walks or other activities!
Training
Katie is the head trainer at Durango Dog and spent her adolescent years training dogs for family, friends, and shelters. She found a passion for dog training at a young age and offers private, one-on-one, training sessions in the Durango Area. Katie has shadowed under world-renowned trainer, Cheri Wulff Lucas and continues to further her education in dog training regularly through a remote mentor program with Mirror Image k9.
Katie’s approach to training is a little bit different than many other trainers. She uses psychology and relationship-based training methods that seek to grow the bond between you and your dog. She coaches you through understanding your dogs behavior and helps you provide them with the guidance and structure they need to thrive. Her goal is not to simply train your dog to obey commands but instead to guide you through a relationship building process founded on trust so your dog can gain confidence and enjoy following your lead. This is an in person consult where we dive deep into your and your dogs relationship, any issues you are having, set goals for both you & your pup and make a plan moving forward.
This can be up to 2 hours long and involves a lot of talking and some hands on work to get started.
This consultation is $199

Private sessions are held in the comfort of your home and are 1 hour long.
If you have additional questions (and I do not have another lesson to get to) you can purchase an additional 15 minutes for $10
Each private session is $90.

I am happy to put together a group class to make training more affordable. If you and at least 3 friends have something you would like to learn we can arrange for me to teach all of you at the same time for a discounted price. I do occasionally plan group classes as well. Look out for those here on my website, Facebook and Instagram.

Any session canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be subject to a $20 cancelation fee payable by Venmo, cash or check. If you would like to reschedule, this fee may be applied to your next session if the session is within 1 week of your original booking.

Wedding dog handling
Durango, CO is known for its amazing outdoor wedding venues and elopement locations. With that, many outdoorsy dog lovers choose to get married here. But the big question is, how do you incorporate your dog into your wedding or elopement without compromising your, or one of your guests, experience? You hire a wedding dog coordinator! We can transport your fur baby to and from locations, stage them for photos, help walk them in the ceremony and make sure they are taken care of during and after your big day. We can even train them to preform a task ahead of time like carry the ring pillow.

Has your dog been fired from other groomers for behavior problems? Do you avoid the groomer because of your dogs behavior? If so, you are not alone. Luckily, I am here to help!
With an extensive training background working with reactive and anxious dogs, I offer training grooms where I focus primarily on the dogs experience rather than aesthetics. The goal of training grooms is to build trust and confidence with your dog so they can become comfortable with grooming.
Training grooms require patience, regular visits, and sometimes, a commitment to working on things at home between appointments.
Prices begin at the standard grooming prices above, plus $50 per additional hour I spend working with your dog. Prices may also vary based on severity of behavioral issues and coat condition. Additional charges apply for dogs that require private visits with no other dogs around.
I have helped many anxious and aggressive dogs feel comfortable with grooming and would love to do the same for your dog!

*Please note: A $25 Late Fee will be be charged if you are more than 20 minutes late to drop off and/or more than 60 minutes late to pick up your pet once they are finished. Durango Pet Resort also offers daycare. If you need to pick up at the end of the day, please make arrangements with the kennel staff or communicate your needs with us to work something out ahead of time.

SittING
Headed out of town? We are happy to help take care of things while you are gone by connecting you with a reputable sitter! They can sit in your home, or host your pet at their house. We have taken care of just about every animal from horses to hermit crabs and I are always willing to learn something new if you have an animal that we haven’t watched.
How it works

Send us a text (or email) with your requested dates, approximately where you are located and a short overview of the job. We will get back to you with availability of one of our trusted sitters. Then, we can set up a free phone call to chat about you and your pet’s/home’s needs.

Your sitter will come to your home for a visit. Here, we can get instructions on how to properly take care of your home and pets while you are away. If we were unable to quote your job over the phone, we will definitely be able to give you a price at this meeting.

Cancellation Policy
Sitting cancelations made less than 2 weeks in advance will be subject to 25% payment of the total cost and 50% if cancellations are made less than 48 hours in advance.
walkING & Drop-In’s
With 13+ years of experience walking dogs, we have found that the best activity for a dog is the one they love! That is why we offer more than just walking. We have taken dogs running, swimming, hiking, and even kayaking. On top of these epic adventures, we are also happy to just go for a stroll around the block or play in the backyard if that is all they need. All Drop-In visits consist of a potty break, play time and/or snuggles.

I always like to meet a dog in its own environment with its owner present before walking them. In addition to getting to know each other, this is a chance for you to show me around. If you will not be present when I come to walk your pup, I will need to know how to get to them and where their leashes and gear are.

This is a 15-minute drop-in service, great for older or calmer dogs.
Potty Break Plus+ [$20]
This is a 30-minute drop-in service, great for older or calmer dogs that require more affection and/or play time.

30 min. Walk [$25]
This is a leisurely neighborhood walk great for moderately active dogs looking for some outside time and enrichment.
1 hr. Walk [$35]
This is an extended leisurely neighborhood walk great for more active dogs that need more stimulation and activity.
Special Adventure! [$40 - $75]
This is a longer or more intense activity than your typical walk. It can be a swim at the river, a hike, a bike ride, or a run. This is ideal for young, high drive dogs who need to burn a lot of energy. Prices will vary by time and activity. Pitch us your idea and we will give you a quote.
